Objective 5:

Practice with an understanding of human rights and social justice by engaging in systematic social change to alleviate economic deprivation and oppression by applying change strategies to begin the process of achieving a just society in a global community.

I demonstrated competency and understanding of human rights and social justice by attending and participating in the Chattanooga Social Justice Retreat in 2006 and 2007. The retreat was organized and hosted by UTC. Several other schools participated including Southern Adventist University, Chattanooga State, Cleveland State Community College, Oakwood, and Alabama A&M. As a facilitator of the hunger lunch at the 2007 Retreat, I was responsible for facilitating discussion among a small group about hunger and disparities between people in the world.

I have copied a portion of the UTC Social Work's web page with information about the 2006 Social Justice Retreat.
