As an assignment for Special Populations class, I completed an in-depth project called the Immersion Assignment. The purpose of the assignment was for the students to immerse themselves into another culture or way of life. Another student and I partnered to learn everything we could about living with physical disabilities. As part of this assignment, we developed lists of points to consider when working with people with physical disabilities and things to avoid when working with this population.

As a student intern, I am functioning as a professional member of a team at a social service agency working with caregivers of relative children. I am able to work independently, but many times I work as member of a collaborative team of staff on projects. I have also developed and led client groups of various ages in this agency. agency. Integrate an appreciation for the history of the social work profession and the relationship between social welfare policies and the social work profession to inform the context of current generalist practice.
An assignment I completed that demonstrates completion of this objective is a Research Brief completed for my Senior Research class. For this assignment, I reviewed several up-to-date articles on the topic of relatives raising children and discussed the articles’ finding as well as implications related to social work practice for this population.
